If there's one thing the '80s can take credit for (other than the lame fashions), it's that it produced a lot of cheesy horror flicks that are just plain fun to watch. Night of the Demons doesn't disappoint if you're into that vibe like I am. The local highschool's token creepy chick Angela (kinkade) and her slutty friend (Quigly) have invited a group of kids to a Halloween party at Hull House, an abandoned funeral home. The idea is to scare the Hell out of whoever shows up. The potential victims include a jock, his girlfriend, a fat punk and a few preppies looking to get laid. As the party goes on, Angela inadvertently awakens an evil that dwells in the basement of the house and everyone gets their scares. The story obviously isn't original and the movie just reeks of the '80s. (Was there a movie made during that time that didn't have Quigly playing a trashy chick who just has to remove her top?) The camerawork is obviously inspired by Evil Dead's shaky monster-view. Sure, it's dated, but in the end, it's entertaining and that's the best reason to watch any movie. The DVD has a nice video transfer and a couple of decent extras including an interview with Linea Quigly, artwork and trailers. If you grew up on this stuff, do yourself a favor and check this disc out. Back to Reviews |
