This 15 minute silent film that I watched at the Eerie Horror Film Festival 2006 had me feeling like I was watching a really well made cartoon. The tale is wonderfully simple. In a lonely gothic mansion lives pianist Nigel, a workaholic who ignores his wife in favor of his music. In a fit of rage, his wife inflicts him with a strange malady, making him unable to play music any more. Unknown to either Nigel or his wife, the entire exchange is watched by the ghost of a young girl who enjoys listening to Nigel's piano playing. This ghost takes things into her own hands to help Nigel and get the music going again. The acting is good enough for what it is. The FX are beautiful, complete with stop-motion wolves haunting the grounds, a perfectly ethereal ghost and some great miniature work for the mansion grounds. All said and done, The Listening Dead makes for a great addition to these filmmakers resume and I hope they bring a longer film to the Fest next year. Back to Reviews |
