I wanted so much to give this movie a higher score...especially since I have a couple of cameos in it and I had such fun on the set. But the movie just isn't that great. The film has a few redeeming features but the acting and editing hold this one back from being as much fun as it should have been.

The movie follows the tale of a pack of werewolves and their rogue member who finds a cure for her lycathropy and decides she would rather have a normal life amongst humans. Naturally, the wolf pack isn't pleased and, in the process of trying to retrieve their errant member, a lot of great action ensues.

It's the action and FX that are the the strong points of the film. Kabasinski puts his martial arts experience into every fight scene and, with Todd Humes (8 time national sport karate champion), Renee Porada (4 time Tang Soo Do World Champion) and professional wrestler "Blue Meanie" involved, most of the scenes are very violent and intense. The choreography is great and there's lots of bone crunching blows and blood spewing apendages throughout, complete with wince inducing sounds. Kudos to whoever handled sound on this one. Larry, Gary, "Chainsaw" and the rest who helped with FX outdid themselves. Even on the bonus disc where the wolves can be seen in proper lighting, they still look good.

The bonus discs (yes...with an "s") are a nice addition to the set and end up bringing the overall score up a bit. The first disc is a DVD with an almost feature-length making-of featurette with a lot of detail and some hilarious outtakes. If you want to know what goes into making an independent horror flick, that disc alone is great. The third disc is a soundtrack CD featuring a lot of Eerie, PA's local and regional talent.

If you're willing to put your brain on hold and enjoy an hour and a half of mediocre acting, smashing fight scenes, cool FX and plenty of gratuitous nudity, you should snag a copy of Curse of the Wolf.
