This is the second film I've had the pleasure of watching from local Erie, PA director "Monster" Mark Kosobucki (see my review for his other film here) and I've realized two things. One, that Monster Mark is going to become a force to be reckoned with in the horror/comedy circuit and two, that actor Bob Joint has the potential to step out of local films and into the big time.

Bloody Inheritance follows the tale of Aimee, a young girl who inherits her grandmother's house and moves in to escape pervert and one-time-boyfriend John (Joint). What Aimee doesn't know is that in the basement of this old house lurks a monster...possibly scarier than the one she's running from!

Director Monster Mark has made a few short films between Edinboro Meets the Spider and this current offering and it shows. His shots are very well done. The lighting is very Argentoesque. The only complaint I have with the shots are that the dialog scenes are full of too many fast cuts. It seems as if the characters weren't even in the same room while they were talking as you barely ever see them face to face. One of the strengths of his previous entry that I reviewed was that his characters were often spouting off streams of his great dialog while not cutting away from them. If this had been done with Bloody Inheritance, the score would've undoubtedly jumped up a notch.

Shooting problems aside, the story is funny and the dialog is still top notch hilarious! The FX are passable and kept low key as they should be in a movie of this type. As a side note to the FX, Monster Mark is currently attending Savini's FX School, so I can't wait to see what he'll churn out upon his return!

Now back to where I started...the dialog is great, but the comedic timing between the director and his actors is world class. Andy Flatley does a laugh-out-loud portrayal of the stereotypical gay best friend of Aimee without seeming too over the top. But the standout role, as with Edinboro Meets the Spider is Bob Joint. This guy is hilarious. He comes across flawlessly in the roles he's played that I've seen. I haven't met Bob yet, but I'm thinking this may be a case of casting him to essentially play himself ala Jason Mews-as-Jay, but it still has me rolling. I definitely hope Mark keeps Bob as a player and I could definitely see him taking a supporting role in a major film if he really wanted to.

All in all, Bloody Inheritance is a step up from what I've seen from this director thus far and I'm looking forward to seeing more. If you're a fan of horror-comedies, this film is well worth adding to your collection if you get the chance.
